Provenance

Where it came from

The Imperial Custom card originated in the Maze of Muertos expansion, a set released to flesh out the tactical options for trap-reliant archetypes within the game. It was designed to offer players a defensive utility that rewards the preservation of existing face-up trap cards, reflecting a shift in the game's mechanics toward rewarding long-term board management rather than singular high-impact plays.

The illustration and design were developed by the game's core art team, aiming for a visual language that signifies resilience and structural integrity. Upon its release, the card was received as a situational but effective niche piece, favored by players who utilized decks built around continuous support cards. It remains a notable example of the era's focus on secondary back-row protection.
