Inaba White Rabbit

The Inaba White Rabbit was originally released in the Japanese booster set Labyrinth of Nightmare in 2002 before its later inclusion in the English Dark Beginning 2 compilation set. The card draws heavily on the folklore of the Hare of Inaba, a story from the Kojiki in which a rabbit is aided by the deity Okuninushi after being deceived by sharks. Its design reflects the transition of traditional mythological figures into the evolving aesthetic of the early Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, blending classic storytelling with the game's mechanics.

Mechanically, the card was designed to pressure opponents with its direct attack capability, balanced by a self-returning effect that forces it to go back to the hand during the end phase. This design choice highlights the tactical utility of early effect monsters that served as recurring sources of chip damage. Upon its release, it was regarded as a niche but flavorful card, appreciated by players who favored deck archetypes focused on field control and repeated summons rather than aggressive board dominance.
