Island Turtle was released in 2002 as part of the Pharaoh's Servant expansion set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It originated from the Japanese set Magic Ruler, reflecting the early era of the game where design focused on establishing a baseline of normal monsters to populate early deck builds. The artwork depicts a gargantuan turtle carrying an entire island on its shell, a design trope rooted in mythological figures like the World Turtle.

The card was illustrated by the internal design team at Konami to serve as a low-level defensive option, specifically functioning as a water-attribute monster with relatively high defense points for its level.
