Kazejin

Kazejin was released in the North American English edition of the Metal Raiders booster set, which hit markets in 2002 as the second major expansion for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Drawing inspiration from Japanese folklore, the creature design serves as one-third of the iconic Gate Guardian trio, representing the spirit of the wind. Its release followed the initial success of the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon set, helping to solidify the game's early mechanical foundation by introducing high-level effect monsters that required significant tribute investment to summon.

The card’s aesthetic and tactical role reflect the era's focus on powerful, high-attack monsters that defined the early playground meta. Designed to serve as a defensive pivot, Kazejin was created to force players into challenging resource management decisions due to its unique ability to reduce an opponent's attacking monster's attack points to zero. While the card became a nostalgic touchstone for collectors, its complexity made it a less frequent sight in competitive play compared to simpler beatsticks of the same period.
