Kingyo Sukui

Kingyo Sukui was introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Duel Overload set, released in early 2020. The card is based on the traditional Japanese game of goldfish scooping, a popular stall attraction at summer festivals where participants attempt to catch goldfish with a fragile paper net. By translating this cultural pastime into a trap card, the design team leaned into the whimsical and thematic aesthetic often found in the series' supporting spell and trap card library.

The card’s artwork reflects this festival theme, depicting the delicate nature of the activity through its illustration. As an Ultra Rare card within the Duel Overload collection, it served as a functional piece of card art intended to provide unique tactical utility during gameplay. It was received by the player base as a niche curiosity, noted for its specific thematic departure from the more aggressive combat-focused cards typical of the competitive meta at the time.
