Knightmare Mermaid

Knightmare Mermaid was released in 2018 as part of the Flames of Destruction booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It belongs to the Knightmare archetype, a series of link monsters designed by Konami that emphasize the cooperative board-clearing and utility mechanics central to the game's Link Summoning era. The cards are characterized by their dark, demonic aesthetic, which contrasts with the more traditional designs often found in the series.

The design of Knightmare Mermaid was intended to serve as a pivotal engine piece within the game's competitive landscape. By allowing players to discard a card to special summon another Knightmare monster from their deck, the card became a staple in high-level play, particularly in strategies centered on link climbing. Its prevalence was so significant that it eventually necessitated regulatory action within the game's banlist, cementing its status as a notable component of modern competitive history.
