Knightmare Gryphon

The Knightmare Gryphon was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2018 Flames of Destruction set, quickly becoming a staple in competitive play for its ability to provide board control through its effect that restricts players from activating the effects of special summoned monsters that are not linked. The card represents a key member of the 'Knightmare' archetype, a series of high-utility Link Monsters designed by Konami to offer flexible, graveyard-reliant removal and disruption tools. The design features a mechanical, corrupted aesthetic consistent with the series' dark fantasy theme, aiming to emphasize the power of Link Summoning mechanics.

The 2019 Gold Sarcophagus Tin release provided players with a more accessible reprint of the card, featuring it as an Ultra Rare within the Mega Pack. This reprint was timed to coincide with the changing competitive landscape, ensuring that players had continued access to a reliable monster that could punish strategies overly reliant on special summoning. As with many cards in the series, the artwork is credited to the Konami design team, who balanced the card's complex mechanical interactions with an imposing visual profile that solidified its reputation as a mainstay in Extra Decks worldwide.
