Where it came from
Kozmo Strawman was introduced in the 2016 set Premium Gold: Infinite Gold, serving as a pivotal addition to the Kozmo archetype. This archetype, which debuted in the TCG-exclusive set Clash of Rebellions, is noted for its imaginative fusion of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the space-opera aesthetic of the Star Wars franchise. The design of Strawman directly references the Scarecrow, reimagined as a mechanical, rustic android character set against a sprawling science-fiction backdrop.
The card was designed to function as a recurring engine piece for the deck, allowing players to pay life points to special summon banished Kozmo monsters. Its secret-rare printing in the Gold series featured the signature gold-bordered aesthetics and textured holographic foil that defined the Premium Gold releases. Upon its release, it was well-received by competitive players for its utility in maintaining board presence, becoming a staple in the Kozmo strategies that dominated high-level tournament play during the mid-2010s.
