Laval the Greater

Laval the Greater was introduced to the North American market in 2012 as part of the Hidden Arsenal 5: Steelswarm Invasion set. This expansion was notable for focusing on the Duel Terminal world, a complex narrative-driven expansion series that introduced unique creature archetypes like the fire-themed Laval monsters. The set was designed to bring cards previously exclusive to the Japanese arcade-based game to a global audience, allowing players to incorporate these highly specialized thematic decks into their standard gameplay.

The card features an intricate, fiery aesthetic consistent with the Laval archetype, which focuses on manipulating the graveyard to fuel powerful effects. As a Secret Rare, it was characterized by a distinct diagonal foil pattern that made it a chase card for collectors seeking high-rarity variants of these obscure monsters. The design reflects the high-fantasy, aggressive visual language established by the Duel Terminal artists, prioritizing dynamic poses and elemental motifs that resonate with the set's broader lore of interdimensional warfare.
