Living Fossil

Living Fossil was released in the 2018 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game set Battles of Legend: Relentless Revenge. This set was designed to bring a variety of hard-to-find cards, reprints, and cards previously exclusive to the Japanese market to Western players. The inclusion of this card aimed to provide players with a versatile revival option, specifically designed to support strategies involving level 4 or lower monsters by bringing them back from the graveyard with an attack boost, while maintaining a balanced cost by banishing the monster when it leaves the field.

The card features an illustration consistent with the thematic design language of modern Yu-Gi-Oh! spell cards, emphasizing a blend of organic and ancient motifs to represent its ability to resurrect prehistoric or fossilized concepts. As a Secret Rare in the BLRR set, it was intended as a high-rarity chase card for collectors, distinguished by its unique prismatic foil finish. Upon its release, it was received as a functional tool for combo-heavy decks, appreciated by competitive players for its utility in extending plays rather than for its lore-heavy design.
