Master Kyonshee

Master Kyonshee was introduced as a common card in the Pharaonic Guardian booster set, released for the North American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2003. The set is well-regarded by collectors for its introduction of the Gravekeeper's archetype and several iconic support cards that defined the meta-game of that era. Drawing inspiration from the jiangshi, or hopping vampire of Chinese folklore, the card reflects the aesthetic shift seen in early sets as the game began to incorporate more diverse mythological and cultural creatures.

The design of Master Kyonshee features the traditional Qing Dynasty burial attire associated with the jiangshi, characterized by the stiff, outstretched arms and the talismanic seal often depicted on the forehead. As a normal monster, it served as a fundamental building block for players constructing decks in the early 2000s, fitting into the aesthetic of darkness and undead-themed cards that were prevalent in the Pharaonic Guardian expansion. While not a centerpiece of competitive play, it remains a nostalgic representative of the game's early creative direction.
