Mischief of the Gnomes

Mischief of the Gnomes was first released as part of the Machine Reactor Structure Deck in early 2017. As a common trap card within a pre-constructed product, it was designed to provide players with a situational tool to disrupt gameplay by temporarily preventing the special summoning of monsters based on their levels. The set itself was centered on the Ancient Gear archetype, drawing thematic inspiration from the industrial and mechanical aesthetics characteristic of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.

The card’s illustration and mechanical design were developed by Konami’s internal design teams as part of their ongoing efforts to introduce niche control elements to the Trading Card Game meta. Like many cards in the Structure Deck series, it was intended to offer accessible defensive utility for newer players while providing a niche technical option for competitive side decks. Its reception has remained consistent with its rarity, viewed primarily as a functional utility piece rather than a central competitive staple.
