Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi

Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi was introduced in the 2026 Legendary Modern Decks, a product line designed to modernize classic archetypes with updated mechanics and high-rarity printings. This card was conceptualized to serve as a cornerstone for blade-themed strategies, reflecting a fusion of historical Japanese folklore and contemporary card game aesthetic. Its design emphasizes the sleek, mystical nature of the legendary Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, utilizing the distinct Secret Rare foiling process to create a refractive, rainbow-hued texture that makes the central illustration stand out against the backdrop of the card frame.

The artistic direction for this piece was intended to evoke a sense of refined power, steering away from traditional gritty combat imagery in favor of a more ethereal, glowing portrayal of a sentient sword. Critics and players noted that the card's implementation in the 2026 set successfully balanced visual appeal with technical utility, making it a sought-after inclusion for competitive and casual deck-builders alike. By bridging aesthetic heritage with the complex, chain-based interactions characteristic of the Legendary Modern series, it achieved status as one of the standout designs within the release.
