Mother Grizzly

Mother Grizzly was released as part of the Magic Ruler expansion in 2002, marking the second booster set for the English-language release of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Following the success of the base set, Magic Ruler introduced a significant influx of new mechanics and support cards that allowed for more complex deck construction, solidifying the game's position in the global market. The design reflects the classic early aesthetic of Kazuki Takahashi’s card game, focusing on creatures that serve as deck-thinning engines.

This EARTH-attributed Beast-Warrior monster was designed with the specific effect of special summoning another water-attributed monster from the deck upon destruction. This mechanic was a staple of the era's competitive play, as it provided card advantage and defensive utility. The illustration features the titular grizzly, styled in the distinct, bold fantasy art direction that defined the early era of the Konami trading card line, emphasizing robust, sturdy creature designs that became synonymous with the game's recognizable visual identity.
