Mystic Tomato was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2002 as part of the Metal Raiders set. It was designed as a classic recruiter monster, a tactical staple that allows a player to summon another dark-attribute monster from their deck when destroyed in battle.
