Provenance

Where it came from

Number 77: The Seven Sins first debuted in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Premium Gold: Infinite Gold set in 2016. Its inclusion in Battles of Legend: Chapter 1, a compilation set released in 2023, serves as a thematic reprint that provides players with a more accessible version of this high-rank Xyz monster. The design draws from the established lore of the Numbers, a series of powerful supernatural cards central to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal anime series, which are characterized by their dramatic, otherworldly aesthetic and game-altering abilities.

The card was designed to function as a powerful boss monster, requiring two level 12 monsters to summon—or more commonly, by overlaying it on top of a Rank 10 or 11 Dark Xyz monster. Its visual design emphasizes a monolithic, ominous presence, reflecting its identity as a vessel for the seven cardinal sins. Within the competitive community, the card is recognized for its ability to wipe the opponent's field of special-summoned monsters, making it a strategic utility piece in decks capable of generating high-level Xyz materials.
