Obedience Schooled

Obedience Schooled was introduced in the 2014 Legacy of the Valiant booster set, a release that significantly expanded the support for Beast-Type monsters within the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a Normal Spell card, it was designed to provide a high-value recruitment mechanic, allowing players to Special Summon three Level 2 or lower Beast-Type Effect Monsters from their deck under specific conditions. This design aimed to facilitate rapid field presence and accelerate play for archetypes like Melffy or Racoon-based decks.

The card's artwork features a whimsical, classroom-themed aesthetic that leans into the lighthearted visual identity often associated with Beast-Type monsters in the game. By allowing players to bypass standard summoning restrictions through a strict condition—requiring the player to control no monsters—the designers balanced its powerful utility with a clear tactical drawback. Upon its release, it became a staple in niche competitive circles that prioritized swarm mechanics, earning recognition for its ability to enable complex combo sequences.
