Obelisk the Tormentor

Obelisk the Tormentor originated as one of the three Egyptian God cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, designed to emulate the powerful mythological entities featured in the original manga and anime series. While the initial versions were tournament-illegal prize cards, this specific iteration was released in the 2012 Battle Pack: Epic Dawn set, which was designed to facilitate a draft-style gameplay environment. By reprinting high-profile cards in this format, Konami allowed players to experience the overwhelming power of these legendary monsters within a balanced, limited-pool setting.

The artwork retains the classic Kazuki Takahashi design, depicting the hulking blue deity with a focus on its imposing, armor-plated aesthetic and intimidating stature. As a staple of the series lore, the card is characterized by its devastating field-clearing effect, requiring the tribute of two monsters to summon and offering a high degree of protection. Its inclusion in Epic Dawn was well-received by fans who appreciated the opportunity to incorporate a piece of franchise history into their gameplay, marking a transition of the card from a purely collectible status symbol to a functional piece of competitive draft play.
