Ookazi

Ookazi was introduced as part of the initial Starter Deck: Kaiba, released by Konami in 2002 to coincide with the North American launch of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a spell card designed for early gameplay, its function is straightforward: it inflicts 800 points of direct damage to the opponent's life points. This card reflects the aggressive, high-damage philosophy often associated with Seto Kaiba’s deck style, which prioritized overwhelming force in the game's nascent competitive scene.

The card’s illustration and design are part of the original Japanese visual library created for the game's transition to a global market. While not a centerpiece of professional play due to its limited efficiency compared to more complex strategies, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of the original 2002 starter sets. Its presence in the Starter Deck: Kaiba served to familiarize new players with the mechanics of direct burn damage, acting as a simple, illustrative tool for understanding spell card interactions.
