Premature Burial

Premature Burial was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the Pharaoh's Servant expansion in 2002. As a powerful Equip Spell card that allowed players to special summon a monster from their graveyard at the cost of 800 life points, it quickly became a staple in competitive play for its ability to enable quick combos and recover lost resources. Its design features macabre, gothic imagery that aligns with the darker aesthetic choices prevalent in the early sets of the game.

The Retro Pack 2 version, released later as a reprint, serves as a thematic homage to the game's foundational era. While the card mechanics remained identical to its original release, the inclusion in this set allowed players to acquire essential classic support in a more accessible common rarity. The card's enduring presence in the game's history is marked by its eventual placement on the Forbidden and Limited list for several years due to its significant impact on graveyard-centric strategies.
