Prevent Rat

Prevent Rat was introduced as part of the Metal Raiders expansion, the second major set released for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2002. As a Normal Monster with a terrestrial, rodent-like design, it served as a quintessential piece of early-era card filler, common in booster packs to bolster the card pool for players navigating the nascent mechanics of the game.

The card’s illustration follows the stylistic conventions of Kazuki Takahashi’s original creature designs, which often blended organic animal traits with mechanical or fantastical armored elements. In the competitive context of the early 2000s, cards like Prevent Rat were intended for casual deck-building, designed to flesh out the Earth attribute monster rosters rather than to compete with the high-impact effect monsters that would later come to define the meta.
