Royal Oppression

Royal Oppression was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2004 set Dark Beginning 2, a compilation set designed to reprint high-demand cards from earlier expansions. The card itself represents a powerful continuous trap mechanic that allows players to pay life points to negate the special summoning of monsters, reflecting the strategic emphasis on resource management and disruption that defined the mid-2000s competitive meta.

The card features artwork depicting a stern, armored figure representing an authoritarian regime, a visual direction that aligns with the mechanical effect of suppressing board presence. While the card became a cornerstone of control strategies for years due to its versatility, its overwhelming dominance in competitive play eventually led to its inclusion on the game's official forbidden list, marking its transition from a tournament staple to a historic relic of the game's evolving balance.
