Tiras, Keeper of Genesis

Tiras, Keeper of Genesis was introduced in the 2011 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game set Extreme Victory, later appearing as a rare in the 2012 Battle Pack: Epic Dawn. The card was designed as part of the Xyz Monster lineup, a new mechanic at the time that required players to stack monsters of the same level to summon powerful entities from the Extra Deck. Its inclusion in Epic Dawn was intentional, as that set was specifically curated to facilitate a draft-style gameplay experience, providing players with versatile and impactful monsters like Tiras to serve as centerpieces for their decks.

The design of Tiras draws from celestial and mythological motifs, characteristic of the 'Lightray' and 'Artifact' aesthetic directions prevalent during that era of the game. Illustrated with a focus on metallic, armored humanoid features, the design aimed to evoke a sense of imposing, stoic power. Upon its release, it was well-received by competitive players for its reliable protection effect and its ability to destroy cards during the end phase, making it a staple control tool in various Rank 5 Xyz strategies throughout the early 2010s.
