Traptrix Atrax was introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Traptrix archetype, a series of Earth-attribute plant and insect-type monsters that debuted in the early 2010s. The archetype is defined by its synergy with 'Hole' normal trap cards, reflecting a theme where the monsters lure opponents into traps. This specific printing, PGL2-EN036, appeared in the 2015 Premium Gold: Return of the Bling booster set, a release notable for its use of gold-colored foiling on the card borders and text boxes, which aimed to give the cards a more premium aesthetic compared to standard rarities.

The design of the Traptrix monsters is rooted in the concept of carnivorous plants, with Atrax specifically modeled after the Sydney funnel-web spider, known in taxonomy as Atrax robustus. Illustrators for the game crafted these characters with an aesthetic contrast between innocent, childlike appearances and the predatory nature of the creatures they represent.
