Vendread Daybreak

Vendread Daybreak was released in 2018 as part of the Flames of Destruction booster set. It functions as support for the Vendread archetype, a series of Zombie-type monsters introduced in Code of the Duelist that draws heavy thematic inspiration from classic horror cinema and the Resident Evil franchise. Designed to facilitate recovery and board presence, the card allows players to destroy cards on the field equal to the number of Vendread monsters they control that were ritual summoned using specific materials.

The artwork for this card was created by the Konami design team to emphasize the grim, bio-mechanical aesthetic characteristic of the Vendread lineage. As a common rarity card, it was produced as a functional utility piece for duelists rather than a collectible chase variant. Within the competitive meta of the time, the card was received as a situational board-wipe tool that rewarded players for successfully executing the complex ritual summoning sequences required to bring the higher-level Vendread bosses to the field.
