Xyz Tribalrivals was introduced in the Cosmo Blazer booster set, which was released in early 2013 as part of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The card was designed to support the Xyz Monster mechanic, which had become the central focus of the game's competitive meta-game following the introduction of the Zexal era. By allowing players to manipulate the materials attached to their Xyz monsters, the card aimed to provide a tactical layer for decks that focused on swarming the field with monsters of the same Type.
