Where it came from
Breakthrough Skill was introduced in the Cosmo Blazer booster set, released in early 2013 to bolster the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game ecosystem. Designed as a flexible trap card, it was intended to address the growing power of monster effects by offering both an active negation on the field and a situational recursive utility from the graveyard, effectively cementing its place in the game's competitive landscape for many years.
The card’s visual design reflects the intricate, high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the late-era Yu-Gi-Oh! card pool. As an Ultimate Rare, this specific printing features a distinct textured, etched foil finish that sets it apart from standard versions. It was well-received by players for its tactical versatility, becoming a staple utility card that transitioned across numerous deck archetypes due to its ability to disrupt opponents during both players' turns.
