Where it came from
Released in 1990, the 100% OVA represents an early creative effort from the J.C.Staff animation studio, which had been founded only a few years prior in 1986. This project arrived during a period of significant growth for the original video animation market in Japan, where studios utilized the direct-to-video format to explore niche genres and experimental visual styles that were not always suitable for television broadcast.
The production sought to capture the high-energy, eclectic aesthetic common in the late eighties and early nineties OVA scene. Directed by Mizuho Nishikubo, the work reflects the studio's formative commitment to character-driven storytelling and fluid movement. While it remains a relatively obscure title in the broader J.C.Staff filmography, it serves as a testament to the studio's early dedication to establishing its identity within the competitive landscape of independent Japanese animation.
