Where it came from
11eyes was originally developed as an adult visual novel by the studio Lass, released in 2008 before being adapted into a thirteen-episode television anime series by Doga Kobo and aired in 2009. The narrative centers on Kakeru Satsuki, a student who finds himself transported into a fractured, nightmarish reality known as the Red Night, where he must fight alongside other survivors to unravel the mystery of their predicament.
The animation direction sought to translate the game's dark fantasy aesthetic and complex character dynamics into a linear supernatural thriller. While the original visual novel garnered a dedicated following for its ambitious world-building and branching story paths, the anime adaptation received mixed feedback from critics, who noted the challenge of condensing the expansive source material into a limited television format while maintaining the gothic atmosphere.
