15 Sonyeon Uju Pyoryugi

15 Sonyeon Uju Pyoryugi, also known as 15 Boys Space Drift, was produced in 1977 during a period when South Korean animation studios were increasingly exploring science fiction themes influenced by the global popularity of space operas. The film serves as an imaginative retelling of Jules Verne's classic survival tale, transposing the narrative from the high seas to the depths of outer space to align with the contemporary fervor for interstellar exploration and robotics.

The character design and visual direction reflect the distinct aesthetic of 1970s Korean animation, which often relied on collaborative efforts between local artists to meet ambitious production schedules. While the film was received as an experimental entry in the local genre, it remains a notable example of South Korea's early attempts to build a domestic science fiction canon, capturing the era's specific optimism regarding space travel and technological advancement.
