19 Days

19 Days is a popular manhua series written and illustrated by the artist Old Xian. First serialized online in 2013, the series originated as a slice-of-life project focusing on the school days and evolving relationships of four teenage boys, primarily centered on the friendship between main characters Zhan Zheng Xi and Jian Yi. The work is deeply embedded in the digital-first culture of Chinese webcomics, where Old Xian gained significant international attention for her distinct, high-contrast art style and expressive character designs.

The narrative structure of 19 Days transitioned from its initial comic strip format into a series of short-form animated episodes, or ONA (Original Net Animation), which captured the aesthetic of the source material. Old Xian’s direction prioritizes visual storytelling and atmospheric shifts, often emphasizing the internal emotional states of the characters over complex plot beats. Upon its release, the project was received warmly by a global audience, largely due to the evocative nature of the animation and the established, dedicated following Old Xian had cultivated through her social media platforms.
