Seri Koyuki is just trying to have a normal school life, but instead he ends up acting as the straight man to his odd classmate, Kabuto Hanadori. Kabuto is a delusional high school student, whose fantasies range from believing he is a knight on a journey, to claiming that removing his eyepatch will release a darker alter-ego who he refers to as Michael Offenbarung Dunkelheit. Seri is determined not to let himself get pushed around by Kabuto, but it seems that this will be easier said than done!

Where it came from
A Destructive God Sits Next to Me was produced by studio EMT Squared and released as a television anime series in 2020. Adapted from the manga series by Arata Aki, the story centers on high school student Koyuki Seri, who finds himself plagued by the eccentric and delusional antics of his classmate, Kabuto Hanadori. The project sought to lean into the absurdity of the source material, blending character-driven comedy with the tropes of middle school delusions.
The animation direction and character designs were crafted to capture the frenetic energy of Arata Aki’s original illustrations. While the series was received as a niche entry within the seasonal comedy landscape, it was noted for its commitment to the lighthearted gag-anime format. The production team focused on maintaining a consistent pace that allowed the comedic timing between the primary voice actors to drive the narrative forward.
