Aggretsuko: We Wish You A Metal Christmas

Aggretsuko: We Wish You A Metal Christmas was produced by Fanworks and released in 2018 as a standalone holiday special following the successful debut of the Aggretsuko original net animation series on Netflix. The special continues the narrative of Retsuko, a red panda office worker who copes with the stresses of her daily corporate life by singing death metal at local karaoke bars. It was developed to capitalize on the character's global popularity, expanding the established world of the Sanrio mascot through a seasonal lens that juxtaposes traditional festive cheer with Retsuko's characteristic vocal outbursts.

The production maintains the distinct aesthetic and creative direction established by director Rarecho, who has been the primary creative force behind the character's screen adaptations. The animation style remains consistent with the previous series, emphasizing comedic timing and the sharp contrast between Retsuko's polite professional demeanor and her aggressive metal persona. The special was well-received by the existing fan base, serving as a bridge between the show's first and second seasons and further cementing the series' reputation for relatable workplace satire.
