Synopsis

Mankai Company is a far cry from its glory days as an all-male theater. With only one member left and debt collectors at the door, it’s no wonder Izumi Tachibana finds herself in over her head when she boldly confronts the yakuza’s loan sharks, promising to bring her father’s theater back into the spotlight. She might be able to recruit enough talent, but can they bloom into the actors she needs?

Provenance

Where it came from

A3! Season Spring & Summer was produced by Studio 3Hz and P.A. Works, adapting the popular mobile game developed by Liber Entertainment. Released in 2020, the series was conceived to translate the game's theatrical troupe management narrative into an animated format, focusing on the formation and revitalization of the Mankaikan Company's Spring and Summer troupes. The project sought to capture the distinct personalities of the fledgling actors as they navigate the challenges of the stage and personal growth.

The character designs were based on the original illustrations by Ryo Fujiwara, known for the game's recognizable aesthetic. The animation production aimed to balance the character-driven drama inherent in the source material with the technical demands of a seasonal broadcast. While the production faced significant delays and staff restructuring due to external logistical challenges during its release window, it remains a notable example of the trend of adapting otome and management-style mobile games into episodic anime.
