The studio aimed to blend typical action-fantasy tropes with character-driven relationship dynamics, seeking to capitalize on the popularity of competitive combat school narratives that were prevalent in mid-2010s Japanese media.

The character designs were overseen by Keiichi Sano, who worked to translate the intricate illustrations from the original novels into a cohesive visual style suitable for animation.
