Actually, I Am

Actually, I Am, known in Japan as Jitsu wa Watashi wa, was produced by TMS Entertainment and aired in 2015. Adapted from the manga series by Eiji Masuda, the show belongs to the romantic comedy genre, utilizing supernatural elements to complicate the lives of its high school protagonists. The narrative centers on Asahi Kuromine, who discovers his crush is a vampire, leading to a series of comedic misunderstandings as he struggles to keep her secret while navigating a cast of other eccentric supernatural beings.

The animation was directed by Yasutaka Yamamoto, who aimed to translate the expressive, often exaggerated character reactions of Masuda’s manga into a fluid television format. The series is characterized by its slapstick humor and distinct character designs that lean into the chaotic energy of the source material. Upon its release, it was generally recognized by audiences as a lighthearted contribution to the mid-2010s anime landscape, appreciated for its comedic timing and the central romantic dynamic between the lead characters.
