Where it came from
Adesugata Mahou no Sannin Musume, or 'The Three Charming Magical Girls,' was released in 1986 as a promotional OVA by Studio Pierrot. Created to celebrate the studio's dominance in the magical girl genre during the early 1980s, the production served as a crossover showcase, bringing together the protagonists from their most successful television series: Creamy Mami, Magical Emi, and Pastel Yumi.
The animation features a lighthearted narrative where the three heroines interact in a dreamlike setting, designed to delight established fans of the studio's distinct character aesthetics. By centralizing the works of character designer Akemi Takada, the OVA acted as a visual anthology that solidified the studio's legacy in the genre, receiving a warm, nostalgic reception from audiences who had followed the individual series on television.
