Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple

Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple was produced by OLM and aired in 2004, marking a unique adaptation of the author's work for the anime medium. The series was designed to bridge the gap between Christie's iconic literary detectives, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, placing them into a shared universe anchored by a new character, Mabel West. By situating the stories in the early 20th century, the animation team aimed to capture the nostalgic, cozy aesthetic of the original novels while reimagining the narrative flow to accommodate episodic television storytelling.

The character designs were handled with a stylistic approach that leaned into the 'cozy mystery' genre common in Japanese animation, softening the edges of Christie's figures to appeal to a broader demographic. Upon its release, the series received a measured reception, noted primarily for its experimental premise of pairing two detectives who never met in the source material. While it maintains a dedicated following among fans of both mystery fiction and historical anime, it is remembered as a distinct departure from more traditional, live-action adaptations of the Christie canon.
