Against the Gods

Against the Gods, or Ni Tian Xie Shen, is a prominent work of Chinese xianxia web fiction written by the author known as Mars Gravity. It first emerged on the Qidian Chinese Network in 2014, capturing the immense popularity of the cultivation genre that dominates online literary platforms in China. The story follows the protagonist, Yun Che, as he navigates a complex world of martial arts, divine artifacts, and internal power struggles, reflecting the classic tropes of reincarnation and the relentless pursuit of strength that define the genre's appeal.

The narrative design of the work focuses on high-stakes world-building and character progression, structured to maintain steady engagement through serialized daily releases. While the prose is characteristic of rapid-fire web literature, its widespread distribution through web portals and subsequent translation communities allowed it to find a massive international audience. It is regarded as a quintessential example of the modern web novel boom, balancing traditional mythological influences with contemporary pacing and a focus on epic power fantasies.
