Aggretsuko: Season 3

Released in 2020 as the third season of the ONA series, Aggretsuko continued the narrative trajectory established by Sanrio and the studio Fanworks. The season delves deeper into the professional and personal life of Retsuko, a red panda office worker who uses death metal karaoke as a cathartic release from corporate stress. This installment notably shifts focus toward the rising idol industry, challenging Retsuko with the pressures of financial debt and the complexities of underground fan culture.

The character design remains consistent with the aesthetic established by Sanrio, emphasizing a juxtaposition between the minimalist, cute art style and the jarring, visceral nature of Retsuko’s rage-fueled karaoke sessions. Directed and written by Rareko, the season was crafted to reflect contemporary anxieties regarding gig work and digital identity. It received generally favorable reviews for maintaining its sharp satirical edge while expanding the emotional depth of its supporting cast.
