Ah! My Goddess: The Movie

Released in 2000, Ah! My Goddess: The Movie was produced by AIC and distributed by Bandai Visual, serving as a cinematic expansion of the long-running manga series by Kosuke Fujishima. The film was created to capitalize on the success of the earlier original video animation (OVA) series, transitioning the narrative into a high-production-value feature that deepened the mythological and romantic entanglement between the college student Keiichi Morisato and the goddess Belldandy.

The film's visual identity was led by director Hiroaki Gohda, who sought to maintain the elegant, ethereal character designs established in the manga while utilizing the increased budget of a theatrical release to showcase more detailed background art and fluid animation. Upon its debut, the film was received as a faithful and visually impressive entry in the romantic fantasy genre, noted for its polished aesthetic and its ability to balance lighthearted domestic scenarios with the grander, magical stakes characteristic of Fujishima’s world.
