Each episode centers on Nuku Nuku's adventures and mishaps in high school, and her relationship to students, the overall series plot centers on the evil Mishima Industries' scheme to dominate the world through its products. In opposition to this plan are the slightly nutty Kyuusaku Natsume and Nuku Nuku, the android who acts as a companion to his young son. Nuku Nuku's classmates are all eccentrics, Futaba, the class president, is a domineering control-freak, who cannot leave her authority in school. Chieko Shirakaba is the rich snob with the two yes-girls who always take her side. There is a bookworm, a mystic, a scientist, and a pop singer. All of these are true to their descriptions: the mystic is always foretelling doom via tarot cards, spirits, or some other occult technique. The pop singer never says anything except as a song. The bookworm always has her nose in a book. These eccentricities add to the series' humor.

Where it came from
All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku TV emerged in 1998 as a 12-episode reimagining of the original OVA series. Produced by Studio Movic and directed by Yoshitaka Fujimoto, this iteration shifted the narrative tone significantly, opting for a more lighthearted, comedic approach compared to the darker, action-oriented roots of the 1992 version. It was developed during a period when the 'android girl' trope was gaining traction in anime, allowing the studio to experiment with a blend of slapstick humor and high-concept science fiction.
The character design for the TV series was handled by Yuji Moriyama, who aimed to streamline Nuku Nuku’s aesthetic to better suit a longer-running television format while maintaining the charm of the original manga by Yuzo Takada. While the series was received with mixed reactions by fans who preferred the grit of the OVA, it remains a notable example of the late nineties trend of revisiting and re-adapting successful cult titles for a wider broadcast audience.
