Altair: A Record of Battles, known in Japan as Shoukoku no Altair, was produced by Studio MAPPA and first aired in 2017. Based on the manga series by Kotono Kato, the story is set in a fictionalized version of the Mediterranean and Eurasia during an era reminiscent of the Ottoman Empire. The narrative focuses on Mahmut, the youngest military leader in the history of the Türkiye Stratocracy, as he navigates complex geopolitical tensions, diplomatic intrigue, and the looming threat of war against an expanding empire.

The adaptation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of director Kazuhiro Furuhashi, who sought to translate Kato’s intricate, ornate character designs and expansive world-building into a cohesive visual experience.
