Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, or Roshidere, originated as a light novel series written by SunSunSun and illustrated by Momoco, first serialized online before being picked up by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko. The narrative centers on the dynamic between Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou and Masachika Kuze, exploring themes of communication and cultural identity through the lens of Russian language usage. The story was conceived to blend romantic comedy tropes with a unique linguistic gimmick, tapping into the growing trend of high-school-centric light novels that emphasize interpersonal tension.

The 2024 television series adaptation was produced by Doga Kobo, a studio recognized for its focus on character-driven animation. The production aimed to preserve Momoco's distinct aesthetic, characterized by detailed character designs and expressive visuals. Upon release, the series received significant attention from the international anime community, largely due to the novelty of the central premise and the high production standards set by the studio, cementing its status as a notable entry in the contemporary romantic comedy genre.
