13-year old Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building. Without any memories, or even a clue as to where she could be, she wanders the building, lost and dizzy. In her search, she comes across a man covered in bandages. He introduces himself as Zack and he wields a grim-reaper like sickle.
A strange bond is struck between them, strengthened by strange, crazy promises…
These two, trapped in this strange building, don't know why fate has placed them there. But they will work together desperately to find a way out…

Where it came from
Angels of Death, or Satsuriku no Tenshi, originated as a free-to-play psychological horror adventure game developed by Hoshizora no Memoria creator Makoto Sanada using the RPG Maker engine. Released in stages between 2015 and 2016, the game gained a significant following for its surreal atmosphere and the twisted bond between its protagonists, Ray and Zack. Its transition to animation in 2018 was driven by the depth of this cult following, aiming to translate the game's distinct claustrophobic aesthetic into a linear narrative format.
The 2018 television adaptation was produced by J.C.Staff and directed by Kentarō Suzuki, who sought to maintain the dark, moody tone of the source material while streamlining its complex branching paths. The character designs were adapted by Miki Matsumoto, who focused on preserving the unsettling visual contrast between the stoic Ray and the bandaged, scythe-wielding Zack. Upon release, the series was received primarily by fans of the original game, praised for its faithful recreation of the game's iconic visual style and its exploration of themes regarding morality and the desire for death.
