Arad: Gyakuten no Wa

Arad: Gyakuten no Wa, released in 2020, was produced by studio LIDENFILMS as an original net animation based on the long-running Dungeon & Fighter (Dungeon & Fighter) online action role-playing game franchise. The series was developed to bridge the gap between the game's expansive lore and a narrative-driven animated format, specifically focusing on the story of the character Ghost Knight as he traverses the world of Arad. This initiative was part of a larger multimedia effort to expand the franchise's footprint beyond its origins as a South Korean PC title.

The animation reflects the high-octane aesthetic common in modern fantasy adaptations, prioritizing fluid character movement and stylized combat sequences to mirror the frantic gameplay of its source material. Directed by Noriyuki Abe, the production aimed to modernize the classic fantasy tropes present in the game for a contemporary digital audience. Upon its release, the series was received primarily by the existing player base, serving as a stylistic accompaniment to the franchise's ongoing expansion rather than seeking to redefine the genre.
