Following the first season, Tomoharu is now faced with a dilemma: if he doesn't form a contract with an "akuma", he risks losing his dear friend Takatsuki. However, doing so would compromise his own existence as it would result in him and his ghost friend Misao becoming an Asura Cryin'—mankind's biggest threat, according to their school's presidents. To make the decision even harder, Tomoharu and Misao have recovered some of their past memories—memories of a world that they didn't even know existed.

Where it came from
Asura Cryin' 2 was produced by Seven Arcs and aired in 2009 as the direct continuation of the first season, which adapted the light novel series written by Gakuto Mikumo. The series emerged during a period of experimentation within the supernatural mecha genre, blending elements of high school drama with complex themes of parallel dimensions and the moral consequences of advanced technology.
The character designs were handled by Kazuya Kuroda, who aimed to maintain a distinct visual consistency with the source material's illustrative style. Upon release, the series was noted for its dense narrative structure and its attempt to balance melancholic storytelling with the traditional tropes of the mecha subgenre, ultimately serving as a completion of the overarching plot established in the debut season.
