Azure Striker Gunvolt is set during an unspecified date in the near future, in which several people called "adepts" have developed "septimal powers". These powers enable superhuman feats including flight, the use of powerful energy weapons, and manipulation of the elements like fire, water, and electricity. The world is at peace thanks to the efforts of a world-spanning corporation known as the Sumeragi Group. However, the Sumeragi Group is, in reality, controlling and experimenting on adepts. Gunvolt, one of the most powerful adepts, has the ability to create electrical fields and works for an organization known as QUILL, which is seeking to reveal and put a stop to Sumeragi's ulterior motives.

Where it came from
Azure Striker Gunvolt: The Anime was produced as an original net animation released in 2017 to coincide with the broader expansion of the Gunvolt franchise. Developed by LandQ Studios, the project was created to provide a narrative companion to the high-speed action gameplay of the video games, focusing on expanding the lore surrounding the adept powers and the conflict between the protagonist and the Sumeragi Group.
The visual direction sought to translate the fast-paced, pixel-art aesthetic of the source material into traditional animation, maintaining the character designs established by series artist Yoshitaka Hatakeyama. While fans of the games appreciated the effort to bring the world to life, the reception was largely framed within the context of a promotional tie-in, serving as a dedicated piece of fan service that bridged the gap between game releases.
