Baby Grandma

Baby Grandma is an experimental short-form animated series that premiered in 2002 on the television network Oxygen. Developed by the artist and animator Amy Winfrey, the show emerged from a distinct era of early 2000s web-to-television animation, characterized by a minimalist, lo-fi aesthetic and surreal, dry humor that often appealed to a niche demographic of adult animation enthusiasts.

The series centers on a peculiar, titular character who possesses the mind of a grandmother within the body of an infant, a concept designed to subvert traditional domestic tropes through absurdism. The project was created by Winfrey during her time as a student at UCLA, utilizing Flash animation to achieve its signature cut-out style. It gained a modest cult following through its initial broadcast and subsequent circulation on the internet, serving as a notable example of the transition of independent digital creators into traditional broadcast media.
