Where it came from
Bad Habits, produced by the studio CALF, emerged during a period of experimentation within contemporary independent publishing and visual art collectives. The work serves as a reflection of the studio's broader interest in the intersection of mundane observational humor and stark, minimalist graphic design, intentionally subverting traditional narrative structures to challenge the reader's engagement with the medium.
The aesthetic direction of the piece was driven by a desire for raw, unadorned visual storytelling, prioritizing clean lines and bold typography over ornate illustration. While the studio focused on smaller print runs to maintain artistic integrity, the publication was received by critics as a poignant, if understated, contribution to the canon of modern zine-style literature, lauded for its brevity and its cynical, rhythmic approach to the daily human experience.
